The aim of this workshop is to explore how protein structure models are used in biomedical research projects today, which requirements and limitations exist for the different applications, and how the interaction between the experimental and computational research communities could be strengthened. In particular, we will address the criticisms of protein structure modeling raised by the NIH PSI review panel. Conclusions and recommendations of the workshop, which should help to guide the development of modeling methods within the community and specifically of the protein model portal of the Protein Structure Initiative Structural Genomics Knowledgebase (PSI SGKB), will be summarized in a white paper.
